Jean Biermans- A great attitude and winning personality!

Jean Biermans biography:

I was Born in 1974 Bonn Germany where I lived for 3 years!
My father is from Maastricht, the Netherlands so we moved and stayed there.

I was always was a busy kid  ,Started like most Boys playing Football !!
Football doesn’t gave me the satisfaction I needed,  I was much to aggressive for it so I did martial arts for a view years.

In 1991 my world collapsed!!!
On my way to my internship I was hit by a Bus and I have bin towed for 15 meters....
The lower part of my leg was “torn off !!” and the Doctors wanted to Amputate my leg
but first they wanted to try  "FIXING IT"  It took me 3 Operations and they fixed my leg.
It was not easy because every muscle/tendons around my knee was ripped off.
My skin and meat was gone too !! so it was necessary to take skin of my upper legs on both sides!!

After a view weeks the doctors wanted to stretch my muscles again... I had to practice in a Motor sheen.
I had to practice a lot * learned to Walk again* but after 2 years I was able to walk without crutches.

I went to a Gym and did some work-out... it was good but after 4 years I wanted to do something else.. and started cycling on a Giant Box for fun!
I liked it a lot and bought me a Cannondale. In the beginning I went with a group of guys on Sunday trips..
They always said "Jean you are cycling so fast u should go racing in Competition!! "
So I did,… and the first race I  was lapped 3 times in 1 hour :)
Still a lot of work to do .. but with some training I was able to finish that year 15th in the Winter Competition!!

After 2 years of Winter competition I did some road racing for a view years, that was fun and I wasn’t slow at all…
I achieved some good  results for a guy with a disability and not unnoticed !!
In my last year cycling on the road it was for the Fuji cycling team with a lot of Limburgers.
Still my love for mountainbiking was too strong, and I went back to my roots....
My first year I did some Marathon what I liked and started with a friend our own team with my Sponsor DT Swiss,Adidas,Borgini and Endorfin bikes *Germany*
It was a good year of racing with some great results.

2006 and 2007, I was racing for Bakker racing Team, where I learned a lot.. and had a great year racing!!
2007 I was 2nd in the Dutch Marathon  Champs!! 16th Master at the European Champ and 23rd at the World Champs!!
I won the Univega 24hours *4 mixed* and 31 place at the Bike Trans Alp.
in 2008 I went to the Univega Pro cycling team
I had not my best year, losing my grandparents....
Nevertheless I went to the European Champs for Masters in Graz and was finished in a 11th place!
The World Champs in Pra-loup was not that good with a 37th place and 8th place at the Dutch Marathon Champs...

Still I won 2 race's Univega 24 hours *2men team* and Willingen bike marathon for handicap...
and a 3th place at the Bart Brentjens bike Marathon!!

And after all those years i have some great sponsor who trust in my!!
